LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University baseball team used an offensive outburst and a dominant performance on the mound to beat visiting Greenville, 9-1. The Eagles are now 11-9 this season and 5-4 in the SLIAC. Spalding is currently in second place of the east division.
Spalding got 2-RBI days from
Nic Chafin,
Brad Speek and
Korie Vire, while
Jacob Woodruff went 3-for-4 with scored two runs.
Ryan Mosby, who improved to 3-0 with the win. He allow one run, none earned while striking out five keeping the Panthers guessing all day.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to an RBI from
Kam Bruner, Spalding scored four runs in the third with a rare two-run fielder's choice from Speek before Vire followed with a towering two-run home run to left. The homer was Vire's first of the season. Spalding added four insurance runs in the next three innings for Mosby, who continued to mow down Panthers all afternoon. Only six Greenville batters reached base and just two advanced past second base.
The Eagles are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Centre College. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. EST. Spalding swept a double-header against Colonels earlier this season.
