LOUISVILLE, Ky.
– The Spalding University baseball team beat Principia College, 10-0 Saturday afternoon to take the series over the Panthers. The Golden Eagle nine improve to 22-12 overall and currently sits atop the SLIAC East Division with a 14-5 conference record, and 7-2 in the division.
JR Belt and
Ryan Mosby led the Eagles at the plate with a pair of hits, including a two-run shot over the right field wall by Mosby, and
Kam Bruner drove in a team-high three RBIs.
Kyle Olliges (5-2) was dominant on the mound, pitching a 7.0 inning shutout, striking out nine batters, while scattering three hits.
The Eagles bats were busy from the jump scoring three runs on four hits in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead.
Ryan Mosby ledoff with a double down the left field line, followed by an
Austin Drake bunt single pushing Mosby to third, and
Brad Speek brought them in with a single up the middle. A
Nic Chafin groundout allowed Speek to move to second and
JR Belt singled to left field bringing Speek around from second for the final run of the inning.
Spalding tacked on a pair of runs in the second when Mosby lifted a two-run homer over the right center wall that also scored
Kyle Stevens to take a 5-0 lead.
From there the Eagles ran away with the game. SU scored two runs in the fourth.
Jacob Woodruff raced home from third when nobody covered second and a ball sailed into center field in attempt to throw out Drake stealing second, also allowing Drake to take third. Drake later scored on a Bruner groundout to second.
In the fifth,
JR Belt singled to the six-hole, stole second and third base and Stevens pushed him across with dish with a ground out to second.
SU's final two runs came in the sixth inning to make the final score 10-0. Drake singled through the left side, stole second, his fourth stolen base of the day, and a Bruner doubled to left to score him.
Drew Beckmann followed with a single up the middle scoring Bruner for the final run of the game.
