PEORIA, Ill. – The Spalding University baseball team took both games of a doubleheader from Robert Morris – Peoria, 16-3 and 5-4, Friday night in Peoria, Illinois. With the wins the Golden Eagles improve to 24-12 on the season.
In game one, Spalding ran up eleven runs through the first three innings on their way to 16-3 rout.
Ryan Mosby led the Eagles at the plate going 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
Blake Patterson also drove in a trio of runs on a 2-for-4 performance.
Javier Guerra (2-1) earned his second win of the season, pitching 5.0 innings allowing three runs, one earned, on six hits, while striking out six batters and walking one.
Spalding rolled out to an 11-3 lead through three innings, then added five more support runs over the next four innings.
Brad Speek drove in SU's first pair of runs ripping a double to left field that brought
Ryan Mosby and
Austin Drake across the plate.
JR Belt and
Kam Bruner highlighted the second inning with a pair of homers. Belt led off the inning with a solo bomb to left field, and Bruner swatted a two-run shot to right field that brought in
Austin Drake later in the inning. Patterson and Mosby hit a pair of two-run shots in the third inning. A trio of doubles by Patterson, Belt and Mosby helped drive in four runs in the fourth inning, and
Chase Patton hit a double to left field scoring
Kyle Stevens for the final run of the game.
In the nightcap,
Korie Vire came in to earn the save putting a halt to late Robert Morris rally winning, 5-4.
Cole Slamko (2-2) moved to .500 on the season holding RMU to two runs, zero earned, on six hits, while striking out three batters.
Korie Vire earned his third save of the season.
Jacob Woodruff led SU batters going 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Blake Patters drove in and scored a pair of runs on a 1-for-2 performance.
Robert Morris got on the board first scoring a pair of runs in the first inning to put the Eagles in a 2-0 hole. SU answered in the top of the second when Patterson hit a two-run bomb over the left field wall that brought in Vire.
The Golden Eagles took the lead in the fifth inning on a
Kam Bruner double to left field that drove in Woodruff from second to make the score 3-2.
SU added a pair of support runs in the sixth inning. Woodruff lined a two-run double to center field scoring Vire and Patterson to give the Eagles a 5-3 lead.
Robert Morris' Slusher hit a two-run home run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the Eagles run to one run, but
Korie Vire came in for the save forcing a groundout and flyout to end the game.
Up next, the Golden Eagle nine will wrap up the regular season with a series at Blackburn College.
