HANOVER – The Spalding women's soccer team gave up four first half goals on their way to a 6-0 loss to Hanover College in their season opener.

The Panther's Erin Hancock put a shot in the lower left corner to score the first goal of the game, and Anna Cornacchione added a first half hat trick sending the Golden Eagles into the half trailing 4-0.

Spalding held Hanover scoreless for much of the second half, but gave up two goals in the final minute of the game to make the final score 6-0.

The most glaring statistical factor was SU's inability to penetrate the Panther defense, taking three shots to the Panthers 21 with only one shot being on goal.

Dee Dee Sliter led SU with two shots, with one on goal. Cornacchione paced Hanover with three goals and four shots on goal.

Freshman Emily Lindsay (0-1) got the start in the net, allowing six goals while collecting five saves.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action tomorrow, taking on Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Ky. at 1:00 p.m. EST.
