Box Score In the first matchup of the season against a SLIAC opponent, the Spalding University men's soccer team was shutout for the first time this year, 2-0. The Golden Eagles came into the game against Greenville College scoring an average of two goals per contest but were unable to put away any chances in this matchup. Greenville scored their first goal just a couple of minutes before halftime and added another tally early in the second half.

In the first half, the Golden Eagles were able to control possession and impose their style of play but were not able to find the back of the net. Greenville College was able to take the lead in the 43

After halftime the Golden Eagles came out on the attack and created multiple chances to level the game but were unsuccessful. Greenville College was able to add to their lead in the 57
th minute against the run of play. A long clearance led to a counter attack that resulted in the second goal of the afternoon for Greenville College.

This matchup between Spalding and Greenville College was a clash of differing styles of play. Spalding employed a possession-based attack while Greenville College relied on defensive organization and a more direct style of play. Spalding had plenty of chances to score, outshooting Greenville College 16-10. The Golden Eagles also had in advantage in corner kicks 6-3. The most important stat however, was won by Greenville College with a 2-0 advantage in goals.

The Golden Eagles record now stands at 6-3-0, 0-1-0. In their next match, the Spalding University men's soccer team will step out of the SLIAC for a nonconference matchup with Centre College on Tuesday, September 30 at the Assumption Green. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM EST. Â
