Golden Eagles Win One of Two at Centre

The Spalding University softball team took one of two against Centre College on Wednesday in Danville, Kentucky.

Spalding 7- Centre 2
In the early game, Centre College's Alisha Russell scored the first run of the game off a double to center field by teammate Jessika Young. Tori Silcox drove in Young for Centre's second run of the inning and a 2-0 lead over the Golden Eagles.

Spalding cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the second, as third baseman Becca Mouser drove in Kelcie Flener, pitcher for the Golden Eagles. In the top of the fourth, the Golden Eagles catcher, Callie Howard singled to left field and scored Mouser and Flener to give Spalding a 3-2 lead.

The Golden Eagles scored four more runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 7-2 victory.

Mouser led Spalding in the victory, as she went 2-for-2 and recorded three runs and one RBI.

Flener earned the win for the Golden Eagles, striking out eight batters through seven innings.

Spalding 1- Centre 6
In the second game of the doubleheader Centre scored three runs in the third inning and one in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead headed into the sixth.

Scoreless through five innings, Mosuer recorded an RBI as she drove in Spalding shortstop Paige French for Spalding's only run of the game.

Scoring two runs in the sixth, Centre took a 6-1 victory splitting the doubleheader.

In the loss, Mouser and Paige French each went 1-for-3 as they were the only Golden Eagles to record hits.

Pitcher Courtney Miller got the loss for Spalding, allowing six runs while only striking out one batter.

The Golden Eagles are back in action Thursday April 17 as they host a doubleheader against Fontbonne University. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m., EST at Jeffersontown High School.
