Box Score 2 Softball takes two from Iowa Wesleyan 5-4 and 13-8The Spalding University softball team (16-11, 9-3) took both games of Friday's doubleheader versus Iowa Wesleyan College (10-16, 4-6), 5-4 and 13-8.
Spalding 5 - Iowa Wesleyan 4In the first game of the doubleheader, the Tigers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning as Iowa Wesleyan Ashley Stube scored on a passed ball. Spalding took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third, as second baseman

The Golden Eagles added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-1 lead over Iowa Wesleyan. First baseman
Paige French scored Spalding's first run in the fifth off an error by Tiger third baseman, Andrea Bury. On the very next play, an error by second baseman, Kristine Becks, scored Spalding short stop
Kelsey McDowell.
Down 4-1 headed into the sixth inning, the Tigers Mikayla Dwyer homered, scoring Haleigh Cowan, cutting Spalding's lead to 4-3. However,
Paige French drove in McAfee in the bottom of the sixth pushing the Golden Eagle lead to 5-3. A Stube single drove in Tiger Kassie Vazquez in the top of the seventh cutting Spalding's lead to 5-4.
Spalding ended the game on a double play by third baseman

Paige French, giving the Golden Eagles the 5-4 victory over Iowa Wesleyan.
Spalding was led by the efforts of Stucker, as she went 2 for 3, hit a home run in the third, and recorded two RBIs. Pitcher Kelcie Flener earned the win for Spalding as she pitched through seven innings striking out nine.
Spalding 13 - Iowa Wesleyan 8In the second game of the double header, Iowa Wesleyan scored the game's first four runs to take a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the third. Tiger Kristine Becks drove in teammate Jillian Leutscher, in the second inning, to score the first run of the game. Two plays later Becks scored off a single by Stube who scored the Tiger's last run in the second inning as teammate Caitlyn O'Neil singled. In the top of the third, Leutscher drove in Tiger Haleigh Cowan to put the Tigers up 4-0 headed into the fourth.
Golden Eagle catcher,
Callie Howard drove in Mouser in the bottom of the third as Spalding scored their first of the game. Three plays later, Howard scored on an error by Tiger short stop Samantha Shepard, cutting Iowa Wesleyan's lead to 4-2.
The Tigers pushed their lead to 7-2, scoring three runs in the fourth inning. Stube scored off a double by teammate Kassie Vasquez who scored on the next play off an error by Spalding short stop
Kelsey McDowell. Mikayla Dwyer drove in Cowan for her second run of the game and a Tigers led 7-2 headed into the bottom of the fourth.
With one out,
Paige French and
Kelsey McDowell hit back to back home runs for Spalding cutting the Tiger lead to 7-4. Howard drove in Mouser for the Golden Eagles third run of the inning and right fielder
Katy Flanagan scored the last run of the fourth off a McAfee double, cutting the Tiger lead to 7-6. McDowell hit her second home run of the game in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 7-7 and Mouser scored her third run of the game off a Howard single, giving the Golden Eagles an 8-7 lead headed into the sixth.
An error by Spalding first baseman,
Paige French, in the top of the sixth allowed O'Neil to score for the Tigers and tied the game at 8-8.
Spalding scored five unanswered runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the game 13-8.
Howard went 4-for-4 for the Golden Eagles driving in four runners and recording one run. Teammate Mouser went 2-for-2 as she scored three of the Golden Eagles' runs. McDowell also scored three runs for Spalding and drove in two as
Paige French recorded two RBIs and two runs in the 13-8 victory. Kelsey Flener recorded her second win of the day, improving to 8-7 on the season.
The Golden Eagles are back in action April 12 when they take on MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m., EST.
