Box Score 2 The Spalding University softball team lost two games at the Emory University Eagle Softball Bash in Atlanta, Georgia Saturday. SU dropped the noon game to Agnes Scott 11-4 and fell to No. 12 Emory 7-6 in the 2:00 p.m. game.
The Lady Eagles surrendered eight runs in the first 3.5 innings to fall behind 8-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth. SU scored four runs to cut the deficit to four at 8-4.
Becca Mouser drove in SU's first run on a triple that scored
Sara Owens from first, and
Katy Flanagan drove in Mouser with a RBI single up the middle. Spalding's last two runs of the inning came on an
Alyssa McAfee double that scored
Callie Howard and
Hannah Stucker.
Agnes Scott went on to add three runs in the fifth inning, and SU couldn't answer as they fell 11-4.
McAfee led SU hitters, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Mouser and Flanagan each added one hit and one RBI.
Courtney Miller (0-1) took the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits while striking out two batters and walking one.
SU fell to No. 12 Emory in the second game of the day. The Lady Eagles trailed 7-3 heading into the seventh inning.
Spalding scored three runs in the top of the seventh, but couldn't complete the comeback as they fell 7-6.
Spalding fell behind 4-0 after two innings, but scored one run in the third inning and two in the fifth to cut the Emory lead to one run.
Callie Howard reached on a walk, advanced to second on a McAfee walk and stole third. Howard came home on a wild pitch to score SU's first run of the game to make the score 4-1. Owens doubled to right center in the fifth inning, to score
Paige French and
Becca Mouser cutting SU's deficit to one run heading into the bottom of the fifth.
Emory added two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and one run in the sixth, taking a 7-3 lead into the seventh inning. The Golden Eagles scored three runs in the seventh.

Kelsey McDowell, and twin sister Peyton scored Paige on a single through the left side getting SU within two runs at 7-5. McAfee got SU within one run when she reached on an error by Eagle short stop Micah Scharff that scored Owens and advanced Flanagan to third and Conder second, putting the winning run in scoring position, but
Hannah Stucker popped to first base to end the Golden Eagle rally.
Kelci Flener (0-2) earned the loss, allowing seven runs on 10 hits, while striking out three batters and walking four.
Sara Owens led SU at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Paige and
Peyton French each added one hit and one RBI.
The Lady Eagles will be back in action Sunday, March 9 in day two of the Eagle Softball Bash. SU will face No. 12 Emory at 10:00 a.m., followed by rematch with Agnes Scott.
