Men's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision To Kenyon College

Box Score

The Spalding University Men's Soccer team lost their opening match of the 24th Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic (at Centre College), going down 2-0 to Kenyon College.

Spalding started brightly when Jackson Cantrell intercepted a pass in the final third just 30 seconds into the game, but his final touch let him down and he fired his shot wide right.

The first half saw several missed opportunities for both sides. Spalding's most notable chance came in the 42nd minute when Joey Lesher rattled a shot off the crossbar before Kwame Kyei's rebound shot was off target.

Spalding would remain on the backfoot for most of the 2nd half. Still, it was not until the 64th minute that Kenyon would break the deadlock, Tony Amolo capitalizing on a SU miscommunication from a long ball and slotting the ball home for a 1-0 lead.

Just ten minutes later, Rel Mitsuyama would tuck home an Alex Christoff cross to put Kenyon up 2-0. SU had two quality chances late on, but the Golden Eagles were unable to score and the game finished 2-0 to Kenyon.

"I thought we had a great first half that shows the type of soccer we are capable of playing," Head Coach Adam Boyer commented after the game. "Our focus now is on finding consistency in our play for an entire 90 minutes. Still, we took a step in the right direction tonight and I look forward to getting back out tomorrow against Franklin College," he finished.

On the night, Kenyon outshot Spalding 25-7. The loss drops Spalding to 1-2-0 on the season.

SU returns to action for their second game of the 24th Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic tonight when they take on Franklin College. Kick-off is at 5:30pm in Danville KY at Centre College.
