Box Score Eureka IL- The Spalding University Men's Soccer team earned their second straight win in the SLIAC today, beating Eureka College 4-0. With the win, Spalding improves to 7-6-0 overall and 2-1-0 in conference.
Despite outshooting Eureka 19-1 in the first half, the Golden Eagles and Red Devils would head into halftime with the score tied 0-0. The highlight of the half came when Eureka goalkeeper David Flores made a big PK save when he pushed
Justin Toller's spot kick wide.
But Spalding's relentless pursuit would eventually pay off when
Jackson Cantrell tucked a shot into the bottom left corner at the 63:34 mark.
Joey Lesher picked up the assist on a nice through ball.
Just minutes later,
Justin Toller would score back-to-back goals. First, Toller blasted a shot into the roof of the net after taking a pass from
Colin Peters. Then, Toller received the ball from Kwame Kyei and curled a left-footed shot into the side-netting to put SU up 3-0.
Kyei would finish the scoring in the 87th minute after he volleyed the ball home.
Cory House provided the assist to make the final score 4-0 at the final whistle.
"We needed 6 points this weekend and the players were up to the task," Head Coach
Adam Boyer remarked after the game. "We're excited to have a full week of training before another important SLIAC game vs Principia next Saturday."
On the afternoon, Spalding outshot Eureka 44-1 and held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeepers
Logan Spencer and
Mike Salamon combined for the shutout in goal.
SU plays host to Principia College next Saturday in Louisville KY at Champions Trace Park. Kick-off is set for 12:00pm.
