Men's Soccer Beats Blackburn 9-1 For Fourth Straight Win

Louisville KY- Just two days after claiming a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Principia College, the Spalding University men's soccer team continued its winning ways, earning a 9-1 win over Blackburn College. With the result, Spalding improves to 9-6-0 overall and 4-1-0 in conference.

It took the Golden Eagles just four minutes to get on the scoreboard. Jackson Cantrell took a pass from Mohamed Musa and blasted a shot past the keeper for his eleventh goal of the season. Just a few minutes later, Cantrell would tally his second goal of the afternoon after receiving a cross from Colin Peters. Julio De Leon would follow-up shortly after with a goal, Peters notching his second assist of the afternoon. Abdullahi Abdullahi would then pick-up his first goal of the day after receiving a pass from Jorge Hernandez. Hernandez would then finish the first-half scoring on a double assist from Abdullahi and Kwame Kyei. With the goal, SU went into the break with a 5-0 lead.

Spalding continued its dominant play in the second half. Peters notched his first goal of the afternoon on an assist from Justin Toller. Stephen Hubert then picked up a goal before De Leon slotted home a penalty kick for his second of the day. Blackburn scored their lone goal of the match when a long throw-in was deflected in by an SU defender for an own-goal. Evan Childers would then finish the scoring on a Matt Hegele assist to give Spalding the 9-1 win.

"The guys went about today in a professional manner," Head Coach Adam Boyer commented after the game. "I was glad to see us get on the score sheet early and it was great to have every player get minutes today."

On the afternoon, Spalding outshot Blackburn 28-5 and held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Logan Spencer and Aaron Seneker combined for the win in goal for Spalding.

The Golden Eagles return to action next Saturday when they travel to Fulton, Missouri for a game against Westminster College. Kick-off is set for 6:00 p.m., EST.
