Box Score Louisville KY- The Spalding University men's soccer team picked up its third straight conference win, beating Principia College 1-0 at home on Saturday. With the win, SU improves to 8-6-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the SLIAC.
The Golden Eagles jumped on the board early when
Jackson Cantrell scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season at the 7:43 mark. The forward took a through ball from
Julio De Leon and coolly slotted the ball home into the bottom left corner of the goal. It was De Leon's tenth assist of the year.
Spalding's defense would do the rest as the game went over eighty straight minutes without another goal. Goalkeeper
Logan Spencer would pick up four saves on the afternoon in guiding Spalding to its fifth shutout of the season.
"It was a total team effort today," Head Coach
Adam Boyer commented after the game. "Our back line was organized and disciplined for all ninety minutes and credit to Jackson for stepping up with his goal. We need to come back out on Monday and repeat this performance against Blackburn," he finished.
On the day, Spalding outshot Principia 14-8 and held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
SU returns to action on Monday when they host Blackburn College in another SLIAC contest. Kick-off is set for 12:00 p.m., EST.
