ELSAH, Ill. - The Spalding Golden Eagles used a dominant offensive showing and timely late-inning rallies to sweep Principia in a doubleheader on Tuesday, highlighted by a massive outburst in game two.
In game one, Spalding jumped out early and controlled the pace, building a commanding 11-0 lead through five innings. The offense was steady throughout the lineup, with
AJ Lopez,
Brayden Caldemeyer, and
Joshua Wilmot all contributing RBIs, while
Cayden Tucker sparked the middle innings with a triple that helped extend the lead.
Principia responded with a big inning to cut the deficit to 11-8, but Spalding answered immediately. The Golden Eagles plated five runs in the seventh, highlighted by a two-RBI double from
