Louisville, Ky. — Spalding University announced today the hiring of Todd Garvey as the university's new head women's volleyball coach.
Garvey brings significant NCAA Division I coaching experience to Spalding, along with a proven record of competitive success and student-athlete development. Most recently, he served as an assistant coach at Wake Forest University, where he helped lead the program to its most ACC wins since 2010 and a top-half conference finish. Prior to Wake Forest, Garvey was the lead assistant coach at Liberty University.
From 2018 to 2023, Garvey served as head coach at Jacksonville State University, where he compiled a 103–39 overall record, won back-to-back conference championships, and earned Conference Coach of the Year honors. His teams consistently ranked among the top programs in their conferences and produced numerous all-conference and nationally recognized student-athletes.
"Coach Garvey brings a combination of Division I success, leadership experience, and deep volleyball knowledge," said
Brian Clinard, Director of Athletics at Spalding University. "He has built winning programs, developed high-performing student-athletes, and understands how to compete at the highest levels. We are excited to welcome him to Spalding and confident he will lead our women's volleyball program to many future successes."
Before his collegiate coaching career, Garvey built nationally recognized programs at both the high school and club levels. As head coach at Mercy Academy in Louisville, he led the program to multiple state championships and a national title, earning National Coach of the Year recognition. His club coaching experience includes national championships and top finishes at USAV and AAU national competitions.
A Louisville native, Garvey joins Spalding alongside his brother, Eric Garvey, the university's head men's volleyball coach.
"I'm incredibly excited to join Spalding and to return home to Louisville," said Garvey. "Spalding is a special university with a strong sense of community and a clear commitment to student-athlete development. I'm grateful for the opportunity to build on the program's foundation and to work with student-athletes who are eager to compete, grow, and succeed."
President Anne Kenworthy emphasized the alignment between Garvey's experience and Spalding's mission.
"Coach Garvey's record of excellence, leadership, and dedication to students makes him a wonderful addition to Spalding," Kenworthy said. "We are proud to welcome a coach who brings both competitive success and a strong commitment to educating the whole student."
Garvey holds a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology and sport administration from the University of Louisville and brings more than two decades of coaching experience across NCAA Division I, high school, and elite club volleyball.
