Bob Allen Nissan Classic

DANVILLE, Ky. – Spalding men's soccer competed in the Bob Allen Nissan Classic over the weekend. The Golden Eagles grabbed a draw on Sunday against Nebraska Wesleyan, 1-1.

SU moved to 0-2-2 on the season.

GAME ONE - SPALDING 0, MARYVILLE 4
The Bob Allen Nissan Classic matchup on September 5, 2025, saw Spalding drop to a 0–4 defeat against Maryville College. Despite generating a few scoring opportunities, Spalding couldn't break through. Maryville's efficient finishing, multiple goal contributions from Brophy, and impact from Denney and Case proved decisive. The goalkeeping duo for Spalding faced a barrage, especially in the second half.

GAME TWO - SPALDING 1, NEBRASKA WESLEYAN 1
After falling behind in the first half, the Golden Eagles responded quickly after the break. Hussein Abdella scored his first goal of the season in the 48th minute to level the match, providing the key moment for Spalding. The Golden Eagles generated 17 total shots, including nine on target, compared to Nebraska Wesleyan's 21 shots and seven on frame. Goalkeepers Micah Mattes and Gabe Brangers combined for six saves, with Mattes stopping four in the opening half and Brangers adding two in the second. Spalding struggled to create set-piece chances, earning just one corner kick against Nebraska Wesleyan's nine, but made the most of their opportunities in open play. Defensively, the team held strong under pressure to preserve the tie, though discipline became a factor late with three yellow cards issued to Jonatan De La Rosa Soriano, Eddie Mendez-Perez, and Carter Payne. The result reflects Spalding's resilience, as the team fought back from an early deficit to secure a hard-earned point.
