Women's Soccer shows Dominance in SLIAC Opener

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Spalding University women's soccer team put together a dominant performance on September 27, rolling past Lyon College with a 6-0 shutout victory.

SU moved to 6-3-1 (SLIAC 1-0-0), while the Scots 2-4-0 (SLIAC 0-1-0)

TURNING POINT
The Golden Eagles controlled the pace from the opening whistle, piling on 27 total shots compared to just one for Lyon, and kept the pressure high until the final minutes. Madison Dziedzic opened the scoring in the 28th minute with an unassisted strike, and the offense quickly found its rhythm. Clara Creg extended the lead with a finish set up by Emma Livingston in the 36th, before Livingston again played provider just before halftime, assisting Alyssa Ochsner to send Spalding into the break with a commanding 3-0 advantage.

The second half brought more of the same as the Eagles continued to attack relentlessly. Taylor Zebarth found the back of the net twice, first off a feed from Creg in the 64th minute and then again with help from Anna Graves in the 72nd. Livingston capped off her outstanding day with a goal of her own in the 75th, assisted by Taylor Touche, sealing the 6-0 result. Livingston finished the match with two goals and an assist, while Creg added a goal and an assist of her own. Touche and Graves also contributed with assists off the bench, showcasing the team's depth and ability to generate offense from multiple players.

On the defensive side, Spalding was nearly flawless, holding Lyon without a shot on goal. Goalkeeper Sophie Young-Neawedde earned the clean sheet without being tested, while the back line stayed organized and disciplined throughout. The Eagles' only blemish was a first-half yellow card, but it never slowed down their momentum. The result was a complete team effort in all phases of the game, with contributions from starters and reserves alike.

With the win, Spalding improved to 6-3-1 overall and opened conference play with a strong 1-0 start.
