Box Score 3 LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Spalding University men's soccer team kicked off their 2025 season with against Illinois Wesleyan University on August 29 at the JR Hoe Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky. Spalding finished the JR Hoe with a draw against Hanover, 2-2.
GAME ONE - SPALDING 1, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 5
Illinois Wesleyan took an early lead, scoring in the 9th minute. Spalding responded in the 14th minute when 
Eddie Mendez-Perez found the back of the net, assisted by 
Marlon Amaya. Goalkeeper 
Dylan Hash had a commendable performance, recording 11 saves. Defensively, 
Oliver Frankenfeld and 
Jonatan De La Rosa Soriano worked diligently to thwart Illinois Wesleyan's attacks, while midfielder 
Ethan Welsh provided support in both defensive and offensive transitions.
The Golden Eagles' offensive efforts weren't enough as IWU scored four more goals to end the game. IWU took the win, 5-1.
GAME TWO - SPALDING 2, HANOVER 2
Hanover came out on fire, scoring a goal just 14 minutes in. SU did not give up there. Right before the half, midfielder Mendez-Perez took a shot from about 50 yards out, hitting the back of the net. Going into the half, the score was tied, 1-1.
Both teams battled coming out of halftime. In the 58th minute, the Panthers took the lead once again. The Golden Eagles grabbed their revenge once again, just as the kickoff whistle was blown 
Mustafa Almohammedawi found 
Forte Bess. Bess put a shot bottom right of the goal to tie the game up. Both teams battled the rest of the way, but no one could get control over the other. The game ended 2-2.
