Six Golden Eagles earn All-Region Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Spalding baseball team was featured on the 2025 ABCA/Rawlings All-Region 8 teams as well as the 2025 D3Baseball All-Region 8 teams.

From the ABCA/Rawlings polls, Hunter Strong and Ethan Tuttle made First Team, Matthew McDowell and Jake Mueller made Second Team, and Jacob Spanyer and Evan Fisher made Third Team. Strong was also voted Region 8 Position Player of the Year.

From the D3Baseball polls, Strong and Tuttle again garnered First Team honors, while Spanyer made an appearance on the Second Team. Tuttle was voted Region 8 Player of the Year.

Strong, a senior from Louisville, started all 42 games for SU this season. At the plate, Strong totaled 19 doubles, 14 home runs, and 61 RBI's, leading the team in all three categories. He also put in an impressive showing defensively, securing 275/276 chances for a .996 fielding percentage.

Tuttle, a senior from Lexington, also started all 42 games for the Golden Eagles. Tuttle led the team with a mind-boggling .494 batting average. During the season, the senior led all of collegiate baseball (NCAA-NAIA) in batting average for over a month. This secured his place atop the SLIAC Single Season hits chart with a record-setting 88 hits. Tuttle also led SU in triples (5) and stolen bases (28).

McDowell, a senior from Louisville, was a mainstay in the Golden Eagle nine, starting all 42 games. McDowell hit an impressive .392 at the plate, totaling 65 hits, 16 doubles, 47 RBI's, and six home runs. He also was second on the team in runs with 58 and was one of five qualifying Golden Eagles to achieve an OPS north of 1.000 (1.103).

Mueller, a senior from Mandeville, appeared in 12 games on the bump, starting 11 of them. The righty led the pitching staff with an astounding 1.94 ERA, good for a top-20 finish in all of Division III. Mueller also led the team with a .95 WHIP and held opposing batters to a .203 batting average. He finished the season with a 7-2 record in 69.2 innings of work, while also pitching 2 complete games.

Spanyer, a senior from Louisville, started 41 games for SU. The left-fielder accumulated 59 hits, including 11 doubles and eight home runs. Spanyer also brought in 49 runs and drew the most walks on the team with 29. He maintained a .366 batting average while also securing a 1.053 OPS. 

Fisher, a senior from Murfreesboro, started 40 games for Spalding. At the plate this season, Fisher totaled a 1.028 OPS as well as a .306 batting average. His most memorable times at the plate however included 13 towering home runs, some of which may not have come down from the atmosphere yet. The power-hitter drove home 46 runs and made an appearance in the stolen bases category, going 1-1.
