Softball begins SLIAC play with a Sweep

EUREKA, Ill. – Spalding softball traveled to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Eureka on Friday. SU swept the Red Devils.

The Golden Eagles moved to 6-14 (2-0 SLIAC), while the Red Devils fell to 6-14 (2-6 SLIAC).

GAME ONE - SPALDING 7, EUREKA 2
The Golden Eagles came out strong in the first inning, plating three runs with key contributions from Riley Wilkins, Grace Marcum, and Morgan Gambrell, who doubled in a run. The offense continued with additional runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings, totaling 16 hits as a team. Madison Loechle had a solid day at the plate with multiple hits and RBIs, while Gambrell and Marcum consistently sparked the offense.

On the defensive side, Sydney Schott pitched a complete game for Spalding, earning her first win of the season. She held Eureka scoreless through the first five innings and worked out of a brief jam in the sixth when Eureka scored their only two runs. The Spalding defense was sharp, committing no errors, and backed Schott up with clean fielding. The win marked a strong all-around performance for Spalding.

GAME TWO - SPALDING 11, EUREKA 2
The Golden Eagles' offense exploded early, posting a 10-run second inning for the second straight game. Multiple players contributed at the plate, including Gambrell and Karlee Terral, who each crossed the plate numerous times. Spalding capitalized on a mix of solid hits and defensive miscues by Eureka to maintain control.

Kennadi Schleicher-Drasler earned her fourth win of the season, going the distance with a strong five-inning performance. She limited Eureka to just three hits while striking out three, and the defense behind her played cleanly to prevent any comeback attempts. With contributions across the lineup and another sharp outing in the circle, Spalding secured the sweep and gained momentum heading into the next stretch of their schedule.
