LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Spalding women's soccer team delivered a dominant performance on Thursday night, cruising to a 5–0 victory over Webster at Legacy Fields.
The Golden Eagles earned the second seed in the SLIAC Tournament.
TURNING POINT
From the opening whistle, the Golden Eagles controlled every aspect of the match, dictating the tempo and maintaining relentless pressure on the opposing defense. Spalding wasted no time getting on the board, as
Emma Livingston found the back of the net just over four minutes into the match to set the tone.
Claira Andrews doubled the lead in the 22nd minute, capping off a strong first half that saw Spalding outshoot Webster 8–1 while keeping the Gorloks without a single shot on goal.
The Golden Eagles carried that momentum into the second half, where their offense exploded. Livingston struck again in the 64th minute for her second goal of the match, this time assisted by Andrews. Less than five minutes later,
Emma Scheumann extended the lead to 4–0 after connecting with Emme Kirn and
Elle Trentman on a well-executed build-up. Moments later, at the 68-minute mark,
Clara Creg added the finishing touch with Spalding's fifth goal, assisted by
Taylor Touche. From start to finish, the Golden Eagles dominated possession, outshot Webster 15–2, and held a 9–4 advantage in corner kicks.
Defensively, Spalding was nearly flawless. Goalkeeper
Sophie Young-Neawedde recorded the shutout without facing a single shot on target, as the back line consistently broke up Webster's limited attacking efforts. Livingston led the offense with two goals on four shots, while Andrews contributed a goal and an assist in a commanding midfield performance.
