LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding men's basketball played SLIAC opponent Lyon College on Thursday. SU came out with the win, 70-61.
The Golden Eagles moved to 10-6 (8-1 SLIAC), while the Scots fell to 10-6 (7-2 SLIAC).
TURNING POINT
The Golden Eagles came out aggressive on both ends of the court, executing well on offense while applying intense defensive pressure. Spalding's ball movement created open looks, leading to efficient scoring from beyond the arc and in the paint. Defensively, they forced Lyon into tough shots and capitalized on turnovers to maintain control. By halftime, the Eagles held a 29-22 lead, positioning themselves for a strong second half.
Spalding continued to dictate the tempo in the second half, fending off Lyon College's comeback attempts with disciplined defense and timely scoring. The Eagles extended their lead early in the half through efficient ball movement and strong finishes at the rim. At times, Lyon applied pressure, narrowing the gap, but Spalding responded with clutch shooting and key defensive stops. The Eagles maintained composure in the closing minutes, securing the 70-61 victory.
GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES
- Anthony Dillard tallied 18 points, three rebounds, a block, and a steal.
- Jacoby Johnson had a great game with 15 points, three rebounds, and three steals.
- Xavier Burton tallied 12 points and a rebound off the bench.
