Stellar Defense pushes Golden Eagles over Blue Jays, 50-40

FULTON, Mo. - Spalding men's basketball extended their win streak to four with a win over SLIAC opponent Westminster, 50-40.

The Golden Eagles moved to 9-6 (7-1 SLIAC), while the Blue Jays fell to 1-14 (0-8 SLIAC).

TURNING POINT
From the outset, the game was physical and methodical, with both teams struggling to establish an offensive rhythm. Spalding leaned heavily on Anthony Dillard, who contributed 16 points and nine rebounds, ensuring the Golden Eagles stayed competitive in a low-scoring first half. Devonte McCampbell's relentless effort on the boards—pulling down 18 rebounds—kept Westminster from gaining momentum. The first half ended with Spalding holding a slim advantage, fueled by timely defensive stops and steady execution under pressure. The Blue Jays' defense made every possession hard-fought, but Spalding's ability to control the glass and limit second-chance opportunities proved crucial.

In the second half, the Golden Eagles tightened their defensive grip, forcing Westminster into tough shots and capitalizing on turnovers. Jacoby Johnson added key contributions, with his ability to penetrate the defense and score in the paint helping to extend Spalding's lead. Westminster's offense could not adjust to Spalding's relentless defensive effort, as the Golden Eagles held them to just 40 total points. Down the stretch, Spalding showed composure, closing out the game by executing in key moments and controlling the tempo. McCampbell's rebounding and Dillard's offensive leadership set the tone, while the entire team displayed discipline and grit in defining their season thus far. SU took home the win, 50-40.
