LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding men's basketball team secured a decisive 81-63 victory over the Eureka Red Devils at Columbia Gym.
This win improved the Golden Eagles' season record to 7-6 overall and 5-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC), while the Red Devils fell to 3-10 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
TURNING POINT
The game started with a fast-paced first half in which Spalding quickly established their dominance. The Golden Eagles utilized their aggressive defensive strategy to force turnovers and limit Eureka's offensive rhythm. Spalding's balanced scoring attack, led by precise ball movement and efficient shooting, allowed them to build a 41-29 lead by halftime. Their ability to control the boards and generate second-chance opportunities played a significant role in setting the tone for the game.
Spalding maintained their momentum in the second half, displaying remarkable composure and consistency on both ends of the court. The Golden Eagles continued to apply defensive pressure, stifling Eureka's attempts to close the gap. Offensively, Spalding capitalized on transition opportunities and maintained high shooting percentages from both inside the paint and beyond the arc. Despite a spirited effort from the Red Devils, who hit several key shots and briefly cut into the deficit, Spalding's depth and execution proved too much for Eureka to overcome. The Golden Eagles outscored Eureka 40-34 in the second half, using their depth and bench production to seal the 18-point victory.
