COLUMBUS, Miss. – Spalding women's soccer traveled to Columbus, Mississippi, on Friday to face SLIAC opponent MUW. SU beat the Owls 3-0.
The Golden Eagles moved to 6-2-1 (1-0 SLIAC) on the season, while MUW fell to 1-6-2 (0-1 SLIAC).
TURNING POINT
SU began the game with a bang.
Emma Livingston netted a goal right past the Owl's keeper three minutes into the match.
Jaelyn Dodson played a beautiful pass to Livingston and tallied an assist. The clock ticked, and the Golden Eagles maintained control of the game. Spalding kept possession of the ball, and the defense held firm like a brick wall. SU's defense did not allow MUW to tally a single shot in the first half. Spalding took the lead into the half, winning 1-0.
It was all the Golden Eagles to open the second half. In the 55th minute, SU increased the margin.
Karolyn Lighthall grabbed an assist with a pass to Livingston. Livingston netted her second of the game to give herself a brace. This boosted not just SU's momentum but also their confidence. Fifty seconds clicked off the clock, and SU took complete control of the match. Lighthall decided to get in the scoring category with a goal of her own.
Melaney Frick grabbed her first assist of the season. From here on out, the Golden Eagles controlled the match and took home their first SLIAC victory of the season, 3-0.
