FRANKLIN, Ind. - Spalding women's soccer traveled to Franklin College on Wednesday. SU grabbed the win, 2-0.
The Golden Eagles moved to 2-1-1 on the season, while the Grizzlies fell to 0-3-2.
TURNING POINT
SU started the game by applying lots of pressure to the Franklin defense. Within the first 15 minutes, Spalding had already taken two shots on goal. The Golden Eagles kept up the high-tempo attack through the half, accruing two more shots on target by the 30 minute mark. Through this time, Spalding's defense held the Grizzly attack to just one shot. Near the end of the half, SU made a run up the left side of the field. A good ball into the box found
Kelli Bergmark who took a quick shot on the Franklin keeper. After a reactionary save by the Grizzly goalie,
Emma Livingston cleaned up the mess, slotting home Spalding's first goal in the 44th minute. This pushed Spalding into the half ahead 1-0.
The Golden Eagles kept up the pressure coming out of the halftime break. Through the first 25 minutes of the second half, Spalding tallied four corner kicks. SU held possession well, holding Franklin's attack to just one shot for the half. In the 81st minute, Spalding drew yet another corner kick.
Faith Rutherford played a ball into the box that found the foot of
Emma Livingston who tapped it to
Alyssa Ochsner. Ochsner slotted the ball in the back of the net to put the Golden Eagles up 2-0. Spalding continued to possess the ball and bled the clock out, winning 2-0.Â

The Golden Eagles return to action on the road in Wilmore, KY. They will face in-state opponent Asbury University on Saturday, September 14th. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
