WILMORE, Ky. – Spalding women's soccer traveled to Wilmore, Ky to take on Asbury University Saturday evening. The Golden Eagles were victorious, defeating the Eagles 1-0.
Spalding moved to 3-1-1 on the season, while Asbury fell to 3-1-1.
TURNING POINT
It was a beautiful evening to open the first half of this in-state battle. For the majority of the first half hour, both teams maintained possession in the middle of the field. Neither team could get the best of the other. In the 20th minute, the Golden Eagles had their first chance.
Emma Livingston, seeking her second goal in as many games, hit a hard shot on the ground. The Asbury keeper made a great save to keep it at 0-0. The clock ticked and the play heated up as it almost hit halftime. With a minute and a half remaining before the intermission, the Golden Eagles struck first.
Faith Rutherford found the net off of a pass from
Madison Dziedzic. This boosted SU into the half winning, 1-0.
The second half began and Asbury came out with some vengeance. Just a minute into the half, the Eagles were already landing shots on target. Luckily,
Olivia Bosch had herself a game. Asbury kept the attacking pressure on the Golden Eagles. The defensive line and Bosch held firm as the Eagles couldn't find an equalizer. With two minutes remaining, SU was close to victory. The last play for Asbury was a shot over the crossbar. Bosch held on strong and helped Spalding secure the win, 1-0.
