Golden Eagles cruise past the Fighting Scots

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On Saturday, Spalding softball hosted Lyon College, a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) member. Spalding won 5-1 and 16-2, sweeping the match.

SU moved to 18-16 (10-4 SLIAC), while the Fighting Scots fell to 16-17 (7-8 SLIAC).

GAME ONE - SPALDING 5, LYON 1
Lyon got on the board first in the top of the second. Neither team could score until the bottom of the fifth. Karlee Terral got things rolling with an RBI triple to right-center field, sending the pinch runner, Makenna Roush, home. Jenni Beasley kept things going with an RBI single up the middle of the field, giving SU a 2-1 advantage at the end of the fifth.

The Golden Eagles took over the game in the bottom of the sixth. Allison Nell tallied a run off a bunt down the first-base line. Hayleigh Gnagie kept the rally going with an RBI single up the middle. Emma Eaton put the cherry on top as she snagged an RBI. SU went on to win this one, 5-1.

GAME TWO - SPALDING 16, LYON 2
In the bottom of the first, Spalding showed pure dominance, putting up a 10 spot to get things going. Madison Loechle (three), Nell, Eaton (two), Carsyn Sidebottom (two), and Grayce Marcum all tallied RBIs for SU in the bottom of the first.

Lyon snagged a run of their own in the top of the second, making it 10-1. The Golden Eagles once again came out with a vengeance. Marcum, Bella Velez, Loechle, and Nell all tallied RBIs in the bottom of the second. SU led at the end of the second, 14-1.

This one looked done as the third inning began. The Fighting Scots snagged a run, but SU struck again in the bottom of the third. Marcum tallied a two-RBI double and earned the mercy. Spalding went on to win this one, 16-2.

GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES NEXT FOR SPALDING
Spalding will travel to Rose-Hulman on Thursday, May 2nd. The first pitch will take place at 5:30 p.m.
