Baseball dominates on the road

DANVILLE, Ky. – Spalding baseball traveled to Centre College for an in-state battle on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles defeated the Colonels 12-3.

SU moved to 21-10 on the season, while Centre fell to 26-10.

GAME RECAP - SPALDING 12, CENTRE 3
Michael Speck got SU on the board early in the top of the second. He singled to center field to send Whitt Callahan home. Ethan Tuttle followed with a double of his own, sending Speck home for the 2-0 lead. The scoring continued as Matthew McDowell stepped up to the plate. He tallied an RBI off of a single to right field. As it reached the bottom of the second, Centre grabbed a run of their own, making it 3-1.

As the game reached the top of the fourth, SU had their biggest inning. Tuttle began the inning with a double RBI. The rally started as McDowell snagged two RBIs and singled to center field. With the momentum on SU's side, a costly error by Centre's catcher allowed McDowell to make it home. Hunter Strong got on base because of the costly error. Dryden Schroeder followed with a sacrifice RBI of his own. SU had an 8-1 advantage at the end of the fourth. 

Spalding entered the scoring column at the top of the fifth. McDowell tallied his fourth RBI on a sacrifice fly to right field. Centre answered with two runs of their own in the fifth inning. The Golden Eagles had a 9-3 advantage at the end of the fifth. 

The impressive outing by Spalding continued as it hit the top of the sixth. Slade West tallied an RBI with a single to the second baseman. SU held the Colonels scoreless in the bottom of the sixth. 

In the top of the seventh, you knew the game was over. Jacob Spanyer and Schroeder each snagged RBIs as the score reached 12-3. Spalding's pitching held firm for the remainder of the game. The Golden Eagles took the win, 12-3.

Spalding will host SLIAC opponent Fontbonne on Saturday, April 20th. The first pitch will take place at 12. p.m.
