LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding men's soccer welcomed new St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) member Mississippi University for Women to the SLIAC with a 2-0 win.
The Golden Eagles moved to 3-3-1 overall and 1-0 in the SLIAC while the Owls fell to 1-5-1 on the season and 0-1 in league play.
TURNING POINT
MUW had the largest share of the offensive chances in the first half but SU keeper
Micah Mattes stopped all five shots that came his way. Spalding took three shots in the first half with two of them, including the only one on goal, coming off the foot of
Mustafa Almohammedawi.
A Golden Eagle corner kick in the 66th minute led to the first goal of the game.
Chadrack Mulondani kicked to ball to
Ethan Eckert from the left corner. Eckert ran right and sent the ball into the net to break the stalemate. It was the second goal of the year for the senior.
With a little under five minutes left in the match, Spalding got on the board again. Mulondani intercepted the ball and beat a defender to get an opening. He took a shot from the right side and sent it into the goal over the keeper's head.
The Golden Eagles took home the 2-0 win to open the 2023 SLIAC season.
