Men’s Soccer took gritty win against Berea

BEREA, Ky. – Spalding men's soccer earned a 3-2 win at Berea on Sunday in their last non-conference game of the season.

The Golden Eagles moved to 4-3-1 while the Mountaineers fell to 3-7 for the season.

TURNING POINT
Spalding came out strong in the first half, both offensively and defensively. The Golden Eagles were able to put a ball into the back of the net in the seventh minute after Adrian Oyler sent a long ball up to Ethan Eckert and Eckert knocked it right past the Mountaineers keeper into the lower right corner.

Spalding went back on the defensive, but earned another goal 12 minutes later when Peyton Frick won the ball outside of the 18 yard box, and served the ball in to Mustafa Almohammedawi, who put the ball in the upper right corner of the goal. The Mountaineers snuck a goal in at the 39th minute to end the half 2-1.

The second half began and Berea slotted a goal in four minutes into the second half to tie the game 2-2.

In the 74th minute, the Golden Eagles earned their third goal. Kaleb Whiteside gained possession of the ball out of the air after it got knocked around in the Mountaineers half, then Forte Bess sent the ball into the left side of the net for his first goal of the season.
