LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding men's soccer used a four-goal second half to down visiting Franklin College by a margin of 4-1, Saturday night.
The Golden Eagles moved to 2-3-1 on the season while the Grizzlies remain winless at 0-5-1.
TURNING POINT
The first half saw a fair amount of offensive chances for both teams, but neither squad was able to capitalize. Spalding took six total shots in the first frame with both shots on goal being saved. Franklin took nine total and saw their three shots on goal saved as well.
It was the Grizzlies who lit up the scoreboard first. A penalty kick goal from Eddy Yousak made the score 1-0 in the 58th minute.
Spalding answered back in the 62nd minute.
Irakoze Chartier received the ball from
Luc Cesar who passed from the left side of the penalty area. Chartier beat a defender and sent the ball into the back of the net from the penalty spot.
A little over four minutes later,
Mustafa Almohammedawi put the Golden Eagles up 2-1 with his fifth goal of the season. He scored from the right corner of the goal box on an assist from
Chadrack Mulondani.
Almohammedawi notched a brace as he scored yet again with a goal in the 74th minute. He scored from the left side with help from an
Ethan Eckert assist. It brought Almohammedawi to an impressive six goals in the season.
Samuel Mulume put the last goal on the board in the 84th minute. A ball bounced to his foot in the goal area and he sent it to the right corner of the net for the SU score. The lead held in the 4-1 win for Spalding.
GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES
- The Golden Eagles led the match 17-14 in total shots and 9-6 in shots on goal.
- Both squads were even in saves (5-5) and corner kicks (5-5).
- Irakoze Chartier and Samuel Mulume's goals were their first for Spalding.
- The four goals were the most for SU this season and since October 2022.
- Mustafa Almohammedawi had a team-high six shots with three coming on goal.
- Micah Mattes earned five saves in a full 90 minutes in goal.
