EUREKA, Ill. – The Spalding men's soccer team raced past Eureka 4-0 to end their SLIAC road trip. The Golden Eagles moved to 7-5-3 (4-2-2 SLIAC) while the Red Devils fell to 5-7-4 (2-3-2 SLIAC).
TURNING POINT
Spalding spent the first half in Eureka's defensive half searching for a goal. The first goal came in the 17th minute, when
Jordan Finneran took a free kick from about 30 yards out. The ball hit the crossbar and bounced right to
Oliver Frankenfeld for a header. The ball went right past the Eureka keeper and into the net. Just 10 minutes later,
Reece Sharp netted a PK after
Ethan Eckert got fouled in the box. The Golden Eagles defense held strong the rest of half and SU entered the half up 2-0.
To begin the second half, Spalding came out of halftime hunting for another goal. Spalding kept the pressure on the Red Devils, but their defense held strong. In the 77th minute, Spalding earned a corner kick.
Chadrack Mulondani took the kick and netted the ball, Olympico style. As the match went on, Spalding and Eureka knocked the ball around until
Forte Bess won the ball in the 87th minute. Bess took it to goal and slotted it past the Red Devils keeper. Spalding took the win on the road, 4-0.
