TURNING POINT

In the 28th minute, Spalding struck first. The Golden Eagles earned a free kick about 30 yards out. Faith Rutherford stepped up to take the kick and netted it in the top right corner, right over the goalkeeper's head. This provided Spalding with some momentum going into the half up 1-0.

SU came out of halftime carrying momentum from the first half. In the second half, Spalding had shot after shot, taking 18 more shots and landing eight more on target. At the 85th minute mark, the Golden Eagles finally put the nail in the coffin. A cross by Rutherford found Elle Trentman in the middle of the box, who found the back of the net. The beautiful play gave Spalding a 2-0 lead with five minutes to spare for the Beavers. The defense held strong for the Golden Eagles.
