CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Spalding men's soccer team rolled past Blackburn College 3-1. The Golden Eagles moved to 6-5-3 (3-2-2 SLIAC) and the Beavers fell to 1-11-2 (0-6 SLIAC).
TURNING POINT
Spalding defense was put to the test almost immediately after kick off, but they held strong. The Golden Eagles went on the attack, testing the Blackburn keeper. In the 8th minute of the match,
Ethan Eckert got the ball and took it down the left side into the box. He knocked it across the goal and past the keeper towards
Mustafa Almohammedawi. Almohammedawi calmly put it in the back of the net for his first goal of the match. The Beavers responded after earning a penalty kick to make the score 1-1. Spalding players took turns testing the Blackburn defense and keeper, taking five shots on the search for their next goal. Unable to find one, the first half ended 1-1.
The Golden Eagles started the second half on the attack. In the 51st minute of the game, Spalding earned a throw-in.
Chadrack Mulondani flicked the throw to Almohammedawi, who slid it past the Beaver's keeper for his second goal of the game. After the Golden Eagles took a few more shots on goal, Almohammedawi netted his third goal of the match, finding the back of the net in the 78th minute. This goal came thanks to a perfectly placed pass across the box from
Jordan Finneran. Spalding spent the rest of the match continuing to apply pressure but were unable to score again. The game ended in a win for the Golden Eagles, 3-1.
