Defensive Showdown ends in a Draw

LOUISVILLE. Ky. – Spalding women's soccer and Westminster College finished their Saturday evening match at Legacy Fields with a 0-0 draw.

LOUISVILLE. Ky. – Spalding women's soccer and Westminster College finished their Saturday evening match at Legacy Fields with a 0-0 draw.

The Golden Eagles moved to 3-6-3 (2-3-1 SLIAC), while the Blue Jays moved to 4-6-1 (2-2-1 SLIAC). 

TURNING POINT
The first half was an even match between both squads. The Golden Eagles could not find the back of the net, after having four shots with three being on target. In a competitive first half, SU maintained control with 51% of possession. Spalding's defense held strong by only allowing four total shots in the half. 

The second half was very similar to the first with Spalding still maintaining possession for majority of the half, but not being able to put the ball in the back of the net. The Golden Eagles tallied eight more shots in the half with a total of 12 for the game. 

Spalding kept the pressure on the Blue Jays, but could not land a goal past Westminster. The game ended in a 0-0 tie. 

GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES
  • The Golden Eagles had a 12-5 shot advantage over Westminster and put six of those on target.
  • SU had five corner kicks to the Blue Jays two.
  • Spalding maintained control of the game with 60% possession.
  • Faith Rutherford tallied the most shots for the Golden Eagles with six.

Spalding will travel to Illinois to play SLIAC opponent Blackburn. Kickoff is set on Thursday, October 19th at 4:00 p.m.
