LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding men's soccer team battled it out against St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Webster University. This match ended in a 1-1 draw. The result moved the Golden Eagles to 4-5-3 (1-2-2 SLIAC) and the Gorloks to 3-7-3 (1-1-2 SLIAC).
TURNING POINT
The first half started off rough for the Golden Eagles. At the 2:59 mark, a foul was committed in the box on Webster giving them a penalty kick. This resulted in a goal for Webster. The Gorloks continued to test keeper
Micah Mattes, but he held strong making four saves. The Golden Eagles were able to maintain 57% of possession in the first half, but were only able to get off one shot.
Spalding came out strong in the second half. In the 47th minute, the Golden Eagles earned a free kick in their offensive half near the midfield line.
Adrian Oyler lofted the ball into the 18 yard box where
Kevin Mulume headed it to
Mustafa Almohammedawi. Almohammedawi then flicks the ball into the upper left corner, right over Webster's keeper's head, tying the game at 1-1. Both teams spent the rest of the half trying to get one more ball into the back of the net but both keepers held strong. The match ends in a 1-1 draw.
