McGowan leads the Golden Eagles in Season Opener

TURNING POINTS

To start off the meet for the Golden Eagles was freshman Ryan Clarkson. He competed in the 60m dash, clocking in a time of 7.53 seconds earning him 14th overall. Up next for the men was fellow freshman Wyatt Frye running in the 1 mile. Frye put up a good fight and ended up placing fourth with a time of 4:46.58. Gavin Janning also put up a solid effort in the 400m dash in his debut meet with Spalding. He clocked a time of 56.50 seconds placing 10th.

To round out mid distance events, both Frye and Janning doubled back and ran the 800m run. Frye placed 7th running in a time of 2:10.89 and Janning placed 10th running in a time of 2:19.04. Rounding out the running events for the men's side of the Golden Eagles was grad student Peter McGowan, who ran in the 3km run. McGowan finished with a personal record (PR) of 9:25.66 and placed 11th.

For the women of Spalding, their day also started in the 60m dash. Freshman Dawn Wilson, sophomore Vivienne Reinhardt, and freshman Shyanne Hagan all made their career debuts for the Golden Eagles. Reinhardt finished ninth in the preliminary round with a time of 9.08 seconds which qualified her for the finals. Both Wilson and Hagan advanced to the finals with a time of 8.83 and 8.85 respectively. In those finals, Wilson placed fifth with a time of 8.85 and Hagan placed sixth with a time of 8.86.

All three sprinters doubled back later in the meet with all three athletes in the competition for the 200m run with all three earning top-10 performances. Wilson led the charge coming in fifth running a time of 30.07, then Hagan close behind in seventh with a time of 30.62. Reinhardt placing eighth in a time of 30.83. Rounding out the day for Spalding was the women's 3km with sophomore Lexie Barthmaier earning herself with a top-10 performance as well. She finished in 8th place with a new PR of 13:01.86.
