LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University softball team picks up two wins on Sunday against conference opponent, Blackburn.
Game 1: Spalding 12 Blackburn 3 (5 innings)
Erica McMann picks up her fifth win of the season in the five-inning contest against the Beavers. Spalding would get the offense going in the first inning as they push five runs across the plate.
Grayce Marcum would start the rally with a triple down the leftfield line. It wasn't long until
Jessica Tucker would grab the first RBI for Spalding as she singles to the right side to score Marcum on the play. The Golden Eagles would continue to drive the ball to the outfield and take advantage of wild pitches to lead the game 5-0. Despite the Beavers earning one back, the Golden Eagles answered with 2 more runs in the second inning for a six-run lead. Spalding would continue to tack on runs to their lead until they were soon up 12-3 to secure the win in five-innings.
Grayce Marcum went 2-for-4 in game one with an RBI, a triple, two stolen bases, and three runs herself.
Jessica Tucker and
Kori Calvert each finish the game 2-for-3 with a combined five RBIs, combined three runs, and a stolen case for each of them.
Game 2: Spalding 6 Blackburn 5 (8 innings)
Game two was closer than expected in the doubleheader as Spalding barely walks away with the win in eight innings. Although Spalding scored first in the first inning, the Beavers would answer back with four of their own as Blackburn takes advantage of defensive mistakes by the Golden Eagles. Spalding would eventually tie the game at five in the bottom of the fifth but could not convert in the seventh to take the win. As we head into International Tie Breaker rules, Blackburn would hit first with a runner placed on 2
nd base. The Beavers would get the run across as Spalding would throw the ball into left field on the stolen base attempt giving the Beavers the one-run lead. Spalding would answer back in the bottom of the eighth as
Kori Calvert would single into centerfield to move the runner over to third.
Mimi Carter would tie the score on her groundout to 2
nd base as
Dawn Wilson scores the tying run.
Rylee Phillips would walk it off for the Golden Eagles on a triple to rightfield scoring Calvert from second.

Dawn Wilson goes 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

th at home with the first pitch at 4 pm ET.
