LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University men's basketball team picked up a loss against Webster, 64-60. The Golden Eagles overall record drops to 5-13 overall and 3-4 in SLIAC play.
Spalding came off the tip-off at a rocky start as the Gorloks went on a 7-0 run against the Golden Eagles. Spalding only shot 25% from the field in the first half for a total of just 21 points going into halftime. The Golden Eagles seemed to turn it on in the second half as they start to cut down the Gorlok lead.
Jacoby Johnson would start the Spalding offense with a three to put the Golden Eagles down by 11. Spalding would take advantage of missed shots and turnovers by Webster as they get within four of the lead on the layup by
Christian Stewart. The SU defense would begin to full court press the Gorloks, forcing Webster to make turnovers. A good layup on a missed free throw by
Troy Amanor would put the Golden Eagles just down by two. SU would intentionally foul Webster players in hopes of getting the ball back. However, the Gorloks would sink their free throws to take the win, 64-60.
Stewart would lead the team with 18 points and five rebounds as
Troy Amanor would follow with 14 points and three rebounds.
Up next, the Golden Eagles will take on Blackburn at home on Saturday, January 29
th with a tip-off at 3:00 pm ET.
