FULTON, Mo. – The Spalding University softball team suffered their first loss in post-season play to #2 Webster Thursday night, 1-6. The Golden Eagles will face #5 Iowa Wesleyan in an elimination game Friday morning.
Spalding would strike first in the top of the third inning against the Gorlocks.
Brooke Smith led the inning off with a walk and would steal second base to put herself in scoring position.
Jennifer Peffley then singled as Smith trucked to third base. The Golden Eagles would take advantage of the Webster error in centerfield as
Olivia Carter would reach first safely scoring Smith and advancing Peffley to third. The Gorlocks would earn two back in the bottom of the inning on a double and a single giving them a one-run lead. Webster would score four more over a three-inning course giving the Gorlocks the win, 1-6.
Spalding will return to action Friday May 7
th at 11:30 a.m. ET against #5 Iowa Wesleyan in the first elimination game of the tournament.
