LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding softball team traveled to Terre Haute last Wednesday to take on Rose-Hulman. The Golden Eagles would split with them advancing to a 10-7 overall record.
Game 1: Spalding 6 Rose-Hulman 4
In the bottom of the first, Rose-Hulman would take the lead on a two-out solo homerun. The Golden Eagles would answer back with a run of their own as
Bailey Melton would score on a throwing error by the catcher, tying the score at one a piece. Melton had reached earlier on a single where she then advanced to third on a single by
Bella Velez and by
Jayda Garrison who was hit by a pitch. The Engineers would regain the lead in the bottom of the third, giving them a one-run lead.
Ally Klein would even the score as she hit a solo shot over the fence. The score would stay at two-all until Spalding strung some hits together to add three, making the score 5-2.
Jayda Garrison and
Amilia Hall would single and then score on a
Brooke Smith bases clearing double. Klein would hit a sacrifice fly to score Smith who reached third on an error by the shortstop. Although the Engineers tacked on two more runs, the Golden Eagles would push another run across to seal the win in game one, 6-4.
Ally Klein was one-for-three with a homerun, sac fly, and two RBIs,
Jayda Garrison was two-for-three with a stolen base and one RBI, and
Brooke Smith was one-for-two with a double and two RBIs.

Game 2: Rose-Hulman 4 Spalding 0
Both teams remined quiet in the box until the Engineers were able to push one across in the bottom of the fifth as errors riddled the defense. Rose-Hulman would continue to add runs in the bottom of the sixth as the Golden Eagles had no offensive answer as the Engineers take the lead and the win, 4-0.
Jayda Garrison and
Madison Loechle would both finish game two one-for-three while Garrison had a double and
Kylie Wainscott would finish one-for-two with a stolen base.
Bella Velez would earn her third loss of the season.
Spalding will return to action at home Friday April 9 against conference opponent Westminster at 5:00 p.m. ET.
