LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding softball team sweeps conference opponent Westminster at home last Friday night.
Olivia Carter and
Erica McMann pick up the win improving their records to 5-2.
Game 1: Spalding 7 Westminster 2
In the top of the first inning, Westminster would jump out to a two-run lead as errors would take advantage of the Spalding defense. Although the Blue Jays had the lead, the Golden Eagles were able to push three runs across the plate to give them the lead.
Madison Loechle would start the rally with a triple to right field to score
Olivia Carter who reached previously on an error.
Grace Sweat came out hot as she would knock a two-run homer to score Loechle and herself. The Spalding offense wouldn't stop there as they produced three more runs over a two-inning span, giving them a 6-2 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, the Golden Eagles would add one final run to take the win, 7-2
Carter, Loechle, Sweat, Thomas, and Garrison all finished game one one-for-three as Loechle and Sweat each grab two RBIs and Garrison pick up one RBI. Garrison and Velez each had a double and Loechle had a triple.

Game 2: Spalding 4 Westminster 3
As a repeat of game one, Westminster would grab the lead, 2-0, in the top of the first inning. The Blue Jays would add one more in the top of the third as a run would score on a throwing error by the Spalding defense giving them a three-run lead. In the bottom of the seventh,
Bella Velez sparked a Golden Eagle rally by singling up the middle.
Jayda Garrison would then reach first base on a fielding error as Wainscott, who pinch ran for Velez, would reach second. An
Amilia Hall bunt would load the bases for SU.
Ally Klein would sacrifice herself on a fly ball to score Wainscott cutting the Blue Jay lead to two. Another bunt for the Golden Eagles would load the bases for the second time of the inning.
Olivia Carter would then single to right field to score Garrison and put Spalding down by one.
Madison Loechle would walk off the win for the Golden Eagles on a single through the right side, scoring Jenn Peffley and Hall. Spalding would take game 2 and the sweep, 4-2.
Olivia Carter was two-for-four with an RBI,
Madison Loechle was two-for-four with two RBIs,
Bella Velez was two-for-three, and
Jayda Garrison was one-for-two with a double and a walk.
Erica McMann extends her record to 5-2.
Spalding will return to action Sunday April 11 against conference opponent Webster at home at 12:00 p.m. ET.
