Three first half goals help push men's soccer past Fontbonne, 4-2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Spalding men's soccer team won a hard-fought contest at home against Fontbonne, 4-2, Wednesday evening. With the win, the Golden Eagles now sit at a record of 9-6-1 and are 8-3 in conference play.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a pair of goals by Ahmadou Gueye. A corner kick shot directly into goal from Chris Encarnacion gave Spalding a 3-0 lead. In the last five minute of the first half, Fontbonne had a run reducing Spalding's lead to 3-2 heading into the half. After a hard-fought second half sophomore Ethan Eckert scored the final goal of the game to give Spalding a 4-2 lead securing the win. 

Goalkeepers Trevor Massa and Danny Hernandez combined for a total of 4 saves and only 2 goals allowed. Ahmadou Gueye bagged his 10th and 11th goals of the season as well as collecting an assist. 

The Golden Eagles will be back in action hosting the Westminster Blue Jays on Saturday, Octoner 23 at 1:00 p.m. ET.
