Ahmadou Gueye fired a shot into the back of the net in the 26
th minute off a feed from
Cole Vance to put Spalding in front 1-0 heading into halftime. Eight minutes into the second period
Caleb Jackson found
Luc Cesar for a goal to increase the SU margin to 2-0. The Blue Jays answered with goals in the 53
rd and 74
th minutes to knot the match at two goals apiece. It looked as if Spalding had slotted the game-winner in the 83
rd minute, but Jackson was called offsides negating the go-ahead goal and the match went to overtime. After the teams exchanged possession the first few minutes of the overtime period
Coen Beach found Ethan Eckart at far-left side of the box and Eckart slipped a shot into the far-side of the net for the golden goal to win the match for Spalding, 3-2.
Danny Hernandez (1-0-0) earned a win in his first start in goal this season. Hernandez tallied five saves while allowing two goals.
