Boyer earns 100th career victory

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding men's soccer team won a thriller over Westminster, 3-2, in overtime Saturday at the Spalding Athletic Complex in Louisville, Ky. With the win, Spalding improves to 10-6-1 overall and 9-2-0 in conference play. The win marks Head Coach Adam Boyer's 100th career win at the helm of the Golden Eagles program.

Ahmadou Gueye fired a shot into the back of the net in the 26th minute off a feed from Cole Vance to put Spalding in front 1-0 heading into halftime. Eight minutes into the second period Caleb Jackson found Luc Cesar for a goal to increase the SU margin to 2-0. The Blue Jays answered with goals in the 53rd and 74th minutes to knot the match at two goals apiece. It looked as if Spalding had slotted the game-winner in the 83rd minute, but Jackson was called offsides negating the go-ahead goal and the match went to overtime. After the teams exchanged possession the first few minutes of the overtime period Coen Beach found Ethan Eckart at far-left side of the box and Eckart slipped a shot into the far-side of the net for the golden goal to win the match for Spalding, 3-2.

Danny Hernandez (1-0-0) earned a win in his first start in goal this season. Hernandez tallied five saves while allowing two goals.
