Volleyball Goes 2-1 On the Road

GREENVILLE/CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Spalding University volleyball team went 2-1 this past weekend on the road against Greenville, Principia, and Blackburn. The Golden Eagles took a loss to Greenville but bounced back to pick up two wins against Principia and Blackburn at the Blackburn College tri-match. Spalding extends their record to 6-10 overall and 4-3 in SLIAC play.
 
Spalding started their trip taking on the Panthers of Greenville to begin the weekend. The Golden Eagles would pick up the loss in three sets before heading to Blackburn. Hannah Holland and Jayda Branch led the team in kills with 5 apiece while Mya Summers assisted 17 times and Branch digging nine.
 
The Golden Eagles would then take on Principia as they traveled to Carlinville, Ill. and ultimately won in three straight sets. Again, Branch and Holland led the match with 13 and 12 kills apiece as Summers would assist her offense 29 times while Libero Sarah Richards would pick up 15 balls off the court.
 
The third match for the Golden Eagles would go into five sets as Spalding rounds out the weekend with a win 3-2 as each set was closer than the next. Summers led the team with 14 kills as Holland and Branch followed closely behind with 12 each. Summers would continue the offense as she assisted her teammates 32 times and Richards would dig 26 balls to end the weekend.
 
Spalding will take on Webster and Eureka at home Friday, October 15th at 6:00 pm ET and Saturday, October 16th at 2:00 pm ET.
