RECORDS: Spalding 15-10, SLIAC 13-5 | Blackburn 5-19, SLIAC 5-13
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Day opened up with a three from Allison Just and a layup from Megan Goeing. Spalding would quickly get a 7-0 lead off of steals and offensive rebounds. A pair of baskets from Goeing would then give the Eagles a nine point advantage. They exchanged baskets for the remainder of the quarter, then a Blackburn layup would cut the lead to seven going into the second quarter.
- Goeing opened the quarter with a three to quickly get Spalding up to a double digit lead. However, both teams struggled offensively in the secondquarter. The Golden Eagles went over five minutes without scoring until Hunter Wright scored a bucket at the 2:17 mark. Along with poor shooting from SU, offensive rebounding kept the Beavers in the game. They secured 10 offensive rebounds in the first half and six in the second quarter alone. This would send Spalding into halftime only up nine, 30-21.
- In the second half, it was all Spalding. A layup from Hannah Renfro at the end of the 3rd would put the Golden Eagles up 20 going into the final quarter. The Golden Eagles' defense forced Blackburn to shoot 26.7% from the field in the second half and the Beavers got outscored by 20. A layup from Amber Higdon would give Spalding its largest lead of the game, but a layup at the buzzer would cut lead of Spalding under 30, with the final score being 71-42.
