Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- After an exchange of free throws, Eureka's Ja'Keesha Hawking got in the lane for a layup to put Eureka in front, 3-2, with seven minutes to play in the opening quarter. A
Hunter Wright layup put SU up 4-3, and the Eagles stayed on top for the remainder of the game. It stayed close, with both teams exchanging baskets for most of the quarter, but a pair of three-pointers from
Kailey Reed and
Megan Goeing would put Spalding up five going into the second quarter.
Â
- Spalding opened the second quarter with another pair of three-pointers from Reed and Goeing extending Spalding's lead to 11 points. A three from Eureka's Jadyn Mitchell would get Eureka within one, but Reed matched it and the Golden Eagles pulled out to a nine-point lead at half, 41-32.
Â
- For the remainder of the game, it was all Spalding. A Wright layup ignited a 19-4 Golden Eagles run that was capped off by a three from
Amber Higdon putting SU up 23 points and Spalding continued to pull away winning 87-53.
