LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding softball team split a doubleheader at Iowa Wesleyan, falling, 8-1 in game one, but bounce back to take game two, 17-0. The Golden Eagles head into Sunday's games at Eureka with a chance to win the first SLIAC regular season conference title in school history.
GAME ONE
Iowa Wesleyan 8 - Spalding 1
The Golden Eagles went cold in game one against Iowa Wesleyan. Spalding had one run that came in the top of the first inning.
Mac Henderson hit a double into left field, scoring
Ally Klein and advancing
Olivia Carter to third. After keeping it close all game, the Tigers scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth. From there, Spalding gave up two more runs, to total the score 8-1.
GAME TWO
Spalding 17 – Iowa Wesleyan 0
After the poor performance in game one, the Spalding offense erupted in game two. After a quiet first two innings, Spalding put up two runs in the top of the third. Avery Booker scored on an
Ally Klein single and
Jennifer Peffley brought Klein in with a single up the middle. After a trio of runs in the fifth inning, Spalding exploded for 12 runs in the sixth inning. The huge inning was highlighted by a pair of three-run homers hit by
Grace Sweat.
