Golden Eagles fall at Eureka, 2-1 and 7-3

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding softball team finished off the regular season against Eureka, dropping both games in the doubleheader, 2-1 and 7-3, finishing 26-13 overall. With a 13-5 record in conference, the Golden Eagles punched a ticket to the 2019 SLIAC Tournament next weekend at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo.
 
GAME ONE
Eureka 2 - Spalding 1
In a low scoring game for both teams, Spalding gave up one too many runs. In the first and second innings, Eureka scored on a pair of singles. Spalding answered in the third inning, however. Avery Morris hit a dinger to left center field. The home run was one of four hits in the game for Spalding. Jennifer Peffley led the Golden Eagle offense with two hits on three at bats.
 
GAME TWO 
Eureka 7 - Spalding 3
The Eagles started stronger in game two, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Jennifer Peffley doubled to left field, bringing in Ally Klein for the first run. Olivia Carter singled to second base, scoring Peffley for the second run in the inning. After a scoreless second inning for both teams, Eureka turned on the jets, scoring six unanswered runs over the next three innings. Finally, Spalding put another run away in the top of seventh off a Peffley single that brough home Klein.
 
UP NEXT
The Golden Eagles begin the SLIAC Conference Tournament on Friday, May 3rd at 4:00 p.m. against Eureka College.
