LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding softball swept a doubleheader against Westminster, 7-4 and 5-4, to improve to 21-10 on the season, as well as moving into first place in the conference with a record of 10-2.
GAME ONE
SPALDING 7 – WESTMINSTER 4
After holding the Blue Jays scoreless in the top of the first, Spalding scored two runs in the bottom of the first with a 2-RBI single by
Mac Henderson. Westminster scored a run in the second on a home run by Katie Price, but
Jennifer Peffley answered with an RBI double in the bottom of the second for Spalding to push their lead back to two runs. Spalding added three runs in the third on an RBI groundout from
Addie Morris, an RBI double from
Brooke Smith, and an RBI single from
Ally Klein. In the fourth inning, an
Addie Morris RBI double to left center extended the Golden Eagles' lead to 7-1. Westminster scored three in the fifth inning to shrink Spalding's lead, but the Golden Eagles were too much for Westminster.

Olivia Carter,
Mac Henderson, and
Brooke Smith had multiple hits for Spalding, and Carter captured the win for the Golden Eagles with only allowing four runs.
GAME TWO
SPALDING 5 – WESTMINSTER 4
Spalding got off to a slow start, allowing Westminster to take a 2-0 lead. The first run coming in the second on a home run by Mackenzie Myers and the second, in fourth inning on a sacrifice fly. The Golden Eagles got a run on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a
Grace Sweat RBI single cutting the deficit to one run, and tied the game at two runs apiece in the sixth when Westminster pitcher Katie Price walked
Addie Morris with bases loaded. In the top of the seventh, Westminster's Hannah Schroeder hit a two-run home to make the score, 4-2, in favor of the Blue Jays. Facing defeat,
Avery Morris drove in
Jaycee Head with a RBI single down the right field line cutting the Blue Jays lead to one run. With runners on first and third,
Jennifer Peffley stole second, and a Westminster throwing error allowed
Ally Klein to score and moved Peffley to third. With
Grace Sweat at the plate and the game winning run of third, Sweat hit a ground ball to second and Peffley raced across the plate for the game-winning run.
Olivia Carter led the team with two hits, and in the circle
Chloe Skorija and
Beth Wright combined to allow four runs, on 11 hits, with Wright earning the win in 2.0 innings of relief action.
